UT academic advising policy

Because all UT students participate in academic advising, please read the following information carefully. Here’s how advising will take place:

  • Any student who has earned less than 30 credit hours at UT (transfers too) or is on Academic Review, must meet with an advisor each semester to be cleared for registration for the following semester.
  • After a student has earned 30 hours and has a 2.0 or higher GPA, he/she will meet with an advisor once an academic year.
  • A student’s required advising term is determined by the last digit of the student ID number:
    • Even number:  Advised in Fall
    • Odd number:  Advised in Spring
  • A student’s registration date will still be based on the number of credit hours earned towards graduation at UT, for example – seniors will have an earlier registration date than sophomores.

You are encouraged to meet with your advisor as often as necessary. Remember, an advising appointment is much more than simply picking classes for the next term. It is an opportunity for you and your advisor to develop and evaluate an academic plan that will enable you to reach your academic goals. Take full advantage of your advising appointment and prepare for the meeting by reviewing your academic history, your DARS report (degree audit) and your progress in courses this term.

If you are unsure how to get in touch with your advisor, please visit the Student Success Center advising website or call the Student Success Center at 946-4357 for assistance.
